EARLY YEARS: New ways to use 529 college savings plans

The path after high school graduation isn’t the same for everyone.

While many students use a 529 account to pay for a four- year university or community college education, now they can also use those funds for costs related to apprenticeships.

“If you’re older, if you graduated, didn’t complete a degree, didn’t complete a certificate program, you may be interested in that apprenticeship, you can save in a 529 account for yourself at any age, you can have a 529 account,” says Mary Morris with Commonwealth Savers.
